“The Bulat-Bulat generative art NFT collection is a deeply personal collaboration between my son and me, where we’ve brought together art, mathematics, and technology to create something truly special.

It is a result of my son’s fascination with software programming and his tinkering with “circle packing”, a branch of mathematics that explores the arrangement of circles within a given surface without overlapping or touching.

Together, we’ve combined our passions, merging my artistic vision with his programming expertise to bring this unique collection to life. Each artwork comes alive by harmoniously blending various hues, sizes, and densities of dark and light-toned rings within each circle.

Creating this collection was a wonderful bonding experience and an immense challenge, as my son meticulously coded algorithms that married advanced mathematical calculations with my artistic vision. Each circle’s color bands are carefully chosen to yield a inspiring artworks that speaks to the heart.

My distinctive artistic style shines through in the mesmerizing interplay of light and dark values, drawing viewers into a world of depth and emotion. The hypnotic array of small and large circles envelops the audience in a lingering trance, evoking a sense of wonder and inspiration.

Years ago, I was fascinated with the idea of becoming a therapist and found myself drawn to a certification program called "Time-Line Therapy." This unique form of therapy allowed me to delve into a person's timeline, guiding them through past events to address and resolve various issues that had arisen throughout their lives. As I underwent the training and gained experience, I was amazed by the profound impact time travel had on the individuals I worked with. They emerged from their journeys with a newfound sense of understanding, growth, and positivity. Naturally, I also ventured into my own timeline, discovering pivotal moments in my life and working to resolve challenges or reinforce empowering experiences. The artworks within this theme represent my personal time travel expeditions, reflecting various stages of my life's journey. The darker pieces symbolize challenges faced, while the vibrant, colorful ones depict moments of triumph and personal growth. This "Time Travel" theme captures the transformative power of self-reflection and healing, reminding us all that our past experiences shape who we are today and that we have the ability to rewrite our own narratives for a brighter future.

This theme is inspired by my fascination with the vastness of the universe and the mysteries it holds. Throughout my life, I have been captivated by the concept of time and space, and I often explore these ideas during my meditation sessions. In my meditative journeys, I envision myself splitting into billions of atoms, each dispersing throughout the cosmos, absorbing the strength and resources that the universe has to offer. Gradually, these atoms reassemble, bringing the newfound energy and wisdom back into my being. This transformative experience instills in me a profound sense of self-belief, as if the entire universe is supporting me in my endeavors. The "Space Exploration" theme captures the wonder and awe of the universe, as well as the potential for personal growth and discovery that comes from connecting with the cosmos. Each artwork within this theme serves as a reminder that we are all part of something much larger and more magnificent than ourselves, and that the universe holds infinite possibilities for us to explore.

Seven Awakenings

As I grew older, I found myself increasingly drawn to spiritual exploration, questioning the nature of existence and the meaning of life. While some questions found answers, others remained elusive. One day, I discovered the teachings of Buddhism on the Seven Factors of Awakening: mindfulness, investigation, effort, joy, tranquillity, focus, and equanimity. Suddenly, things began to make sense. To achieve an awakened mind, we must perceive reality as it truly is, not as we imagine it to be. As I created the artworks for this theme, I sought to represent each of these factors. However, I realized that each piece held different meanings for different people, as they stem from the most intimate depths of our subconscious minds. "The Seven Awakenings" theme captures the essence of these factors, reflecting the unique perspectives and interpretations of every individual who encounters the artworks. In this way, the theme serves as a mirror of self-discovery, inviting us all on a journey towards greater understanding and enlightenment.

The rambutan, a fruit native to Southeast Asia, has always held a special place in my heart. Its vibrant vermillion red or yellow hues and the warmth and sweetness it offers evoke fond memories of my youth and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. During the rambutan season, which coincides with the durian season, I would venture into the Malay villages near my childhood home in the late afternoons. Together with the local children, we would climb the trees to harvest the fruit, creating a sea of red, hairy rambutans in the process. The excitement of picking rambutans and the camaraderie we shared are memories I cherish dearly. After filling gunny sacks with our treasure, I would laboriously drag them down the dusty road back to my house, the setting sun casting a warm glow over everything. The "Sea of Rambutans" theme represents those carefree days, the friendships forged, and the simple yet profound joy that comes from connecting with nature and those around us.

A certain shipyard named Batu Maung remains forever etched in my memory. On a visit to the docks at the end of Penang Island, I encountered numerous abandoned fishing vessels, succumbing to the relentless grasp of rust and decay. These once-proud ships that majestically sailed the seas now lay dormant, forgotten relics of a bygone era. As I stood there, I couldn't help but engage in an internal dialogue, reflecting on the lives these vessels once led and the stories they could tell. Their current state seemed to echo the impermanence and fragility of all things. In that moment, I made a promise to myself that I would someday create something to immortalize the beauty and history of these forgotten giants. The "Rusty Old Shipyard" theme is my tribute to them, capturing the essence of their decayed beauty, and preserving the memory of their glorious past.

My fascination with vintage items and their untold stories began during my early school years when we were tasked with writing essays about the lives of inanimate objects. The exercise of weaving narratives around ordinary items like a pen or a feather duster ignited my imagination and nurtured my love for storytelling. These formative experiences developed a lifelong curiosity, and to this day, stepping into an antique shop fills me with excitement and inspiration. As I explore the dusty shelves and hidden corners, my mind brims with questions and creative possibilities, wondering about the rich histories and memories these objects carry within them. The theme "Rustic Charm" pays homage to the timeless allure of antiquities and the captivating stories that lie beneath the surface of worn-out objects. Each artwork in this collection aims to evoke the nostalgia and warmth of the past, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the tales these items have to tell.

Rubies in Burma

My fascination with rubies has been a constant presence throughout my life. There's a captivating, almost hypnotic quality to these gems that draws you in, transporting you to a mesmerizing, red universe. In my imagination, I often picture the people of Burma mining for these precious stones, as if they were within the depths of a colossal ruby. In this vivid vision, the entire world takes on a radiant, blood-red hue, casting everything in a warm and vibrant light. Tiny miners work tirelessly with their spades, searching for the next glimmering prize. When a gem is unearthed, a flurry of excitement surges through the crowd, their elation amplified by the rich redness enveloping them. The artworks in this theme, "Rubies of Burma," aim to capture the essence of this magical realm I've envisioned, inspired by the breathtaking allure of rubies and the people who dedicate their lives to uncovering their beauty.

"The Godfather" trilogy has had a profound and lasting impact on me; I've watched the entire series at least five times. Set in various locations throughout Rome and Sicily, Italy, the movies evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, transporting me to the picturesque European flower gardens that grace the screen. As a young adult, the themes woven throughout the Godfather's narrative – loyalty, power, trust, and family bonds – resonated deeply with me, ultimately shaping my values during those formative years. In my mind, the images of the rose gardens in Europe have become more than just beautiful landscapes; they now symbolize the ideals and values I've carried with me throughout my life. The artworks in this theme, "Rose Garden in Rome," pay homage to those iconic scenes and the powerful emotions they evoke, capturing the essence of the timeless values that have influenced my journey.

While I don't personally subscribe to the belief in past lives, I find the concept both surreal and captivating, steeped in a sense of mysticism and romance. Occasionally, I find myself pondering what the past lives of others, or even my own, might have looked like. Some individuals envision themselves as different people, animals, or even inanimate objects in their past lives. For me, however, I prefer to conjure up images not of specific forms, but rather of colors symbolizing emotions, states, or narratives. If someone lived a vibrant and thrilling life, their imagined past life would be awash with bright, beautiful colors. Conversely, if their life was fraught with hardship, the image would be subdued, with numerous dark spots. The artworks in this theme represent my subconscious visions of past lives, expressed through a diverse array of colors. Some hues are more intense than others, some are muted, and many carry layers of emotions and memories, weaving a rich tapestry of experiences.

This theme is rooted in my vivid memories of the iconic movie "Back to the Future," which left an indelible mark on my teenage years. The film was so influential in my life that my friends even playfully nicknamed me "McFly" because they believed I bore a resemblance to the main character. One particular scene from the movie has always stayed with me: Marty McFly, the protagonist, travels back in time to save his father from bullies. The setting for this encounter is a charming 1950s cafe, brimming with vintage-chic colors that reemerged in my mind's eye as I developed this theme. The cafe's walls were adorned with playful illustrations of coffee, sandwiches, ice creams, and doughnuts. Although my initial impression was that the setting was an ice cream parlour, it was actually a cafe. Nevertheless, the scene inspired me to imagine my own version of a 1950s ice cream parlour. This theme, the Old Ice Cream Parlour, is a nostalgic homage to the whimsical world of "Back to the Future" and the enchanting charm of a bygone era.

The Night Owl holds a deeply emotional and profound significance for me, as it symbolizes those quiet, solitary hours when the world slumbers, and I find myself alone with my thoughts. Nestled in the kitchen, I would savor the simple yet comforting company of my favorite peanut butter, cookies, and a glass of whiskey. As I indulged in my nocturnal ritual, memories of my past would intermingle with contemplations about our lives, our world, and the uncertain future that lay ahead. In those still moments, enveloped by the darkness, I would discover a unique sense of peace and introspection. This theme, the Night Owl, serves as a tribute to those introspective nights, a reminder of the solace and wisdom that can be found in the quiet corners of our lives.

As a child, I cherished moments spent by the seaside. During my days as a boy scout, the campfires near the ocean's edge became unforgettable memories, forged by camaraderie and friendship. Embracing my adventurous spirit, I would venture to the rocky shores at night to fish. It was during those quiet moments that I would witness the mesmerizing glow of luminous blue colors, scattered along the water's edge. These ethereal sights, combined with the hypnotic lapping of the waves, would transport me into a trance-like state of wonder. Alas, these memories were buried deep within me as the responsibilities of adulthood took hold. Years later, I came across an article about the "Blue Tears" phenomenon – a mesmerizing display of bioluminescent phytoplankton found on the coast of Matsu's Island in Taiwan. Like a tidal wave, the cherished memories of my childhood by the sea came flooding back, and I knew I had to create something to immortalize them. Thus, the theme "Matsu's Blue Tears" was born, a nostalgic tribute to the enchanting and magical moments of my youth, forever cherished in my heart.

Mangosteen season holds a special place in my heart, as it is a time of celebration and indulgence for the people of Malaysia. Coinciding with the season of durians, the revered king of fruits in the region, it becomes a vibrant period of feasting and enjoyment. During this season, I would often visit the farms to partake in the bountiful durian buffet. At these gatherings, there would always be a rattan basket brimming with delicious mangosteens to feast on as well. The artworks in this theme capture the vivid memories of those cherished moments, as I would peer into the basket, selecting the perfect purple fruit to savor. These experiences, filled with the enticing flavors of the season, remain some of the most treasured and joyous times in my life.

In my youth, I found myself constantly on the move, embracing the spirit of adventure. I recall a 10-day island-hopping journey through Thailand that led me to the remote corners of Koh Samui. As a humble backpacker, I embraced the simple life. On a brightly lit night with a full moon overhead, I found myself at a lively beach party. It was there that I experienced my first taste of psychedelics and engaged in captivating discussions about magic mushrooms around a crackling campfire. People from various countries and backgrounds gathered, sharing tales of their own transcendent experiences. As I gazed into the hypnotic dance of the flames, I saw multiple moons, brilliant stars, and vibrant rings of color emerge before my eyes. That night was a celebration of freedom and abandon, a memory of good times that I will forever hold dear.

The artwork within this theme carries a deeply personal significance, as it evokes cherished memories from my childhood. Growing up in a small Malaysian town called Kangar, my home was nestled beside a paddy field. An old wooden bridge spanned a narrow river nearby, where the local Malay villagers would cast their fishing lines to catch catfish for supper. During the weekends, I joined my neighborhood friends on nocturnal firefly hunting expeditions near the river. Each of us carried a glass jar, its top covered with thin plastic sheets and secured by rubber bands. We punctured the plastic with needles to create air holes and placed a few leaves inside the jar for our luminous friends. The magical glow of the captured fireflies never failed to captivate us, as we gazed into the jars for hours, utterly entranced by the living lanterns.

As a child, I was fascinated by war movies. One film that left an indelible mark on me was "Schindler's List." The tale of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who saved over 1,300 Jews from the Nazis, altered my perspective on life. I vowed that I would one day emulate his heroism. The subdued colors in the artworks of this theme were inspired by the black and white cinematography of the film. It became evident to me that my unconscious mind drew from the movie to create these pieces. I could envision the determined men and women laboring in factories to reconstruct their war-ravaged countries after the conflict. This theme represents my subconscious tribute to the movie's virtues: heroism, selflessness, generosity, strength, and courage.

As I reflect on the past, I find myself amused by the peculiar fashions of the previous generation. Bell-bottoms, flowery patterns, and carefree layers of clothing that seemed to defy convention. These memories evoke nostalgia, reminding me of the lively parties my parents hosted when I was just a child. As I grew older, my siblings and I would glance at old photographs, cringing at the adults' odd fashion choices. However, over time, my appreciation for the Bohemian-Hippie style flourished as I embraced art and its unbounded freedom. The desire to live a life unshackled, unstructured, and guided by passion grew stronger within me, caring less about others' judgments. It became my guiding principle, a vision for a life well-lived until my final days. The Hippie Rebel art theme is an unconscious tribute to the spirit of rebellion and adventure that characterized those free-spirited souls of the past. Through these works, I embrace the idea of venturing into the unknown, just as the Hippie rebels did in days gone by.

As a young man, I embarked on a journey to Thailand's islands in search of adventure and the unknown. It was then that I stumbled upon Krabi, a little-known paradise that would forever change my life. It was there that I discovered the Emerald Pool, a hidden oasis that took my breath away. The memory of that magical pond still lingers in my mind to this day. It was a moment of pure wonder and awe, one that I wish to share with my grandchildren someday. Many years ago, when my children were still small, we embarked on a family trip to Koh Lipe, Thailand. We chartered a small boat to go snorkeling, and I couldn't wait to explore the ocean's depths with my children by my side. However, as we submerged ourselves, the current was stronger than we had anticipated, and my heart was filled with unease as I saw my children drifting away. Thankfully, we spotted a thick red rope nearby that offered a lifeline, and we quickly made our way back to the boat. But before we climbed back aboard, I couldn't resist taking one last glance at the vibrant corals beneath the surface, marvelling at their stunning beauty and the profound emotions they stirred within me. The “Corals in Koh Lipe” collection is my tribute to that unforgettable experience, a reminder of the breathtaking beauty of the ocean and the powerful emotions that come with exploring it with loved ones. Through these pieces, I hope to capture the wonder and awe that I felt that day and share it with the world.
